8:30 in the morning. Canada Day. I am exhausted and I have a sore throat. I can hardly swallow but I am still elated to raise my thumb in the wind en route for Montréal. The traffic flies by quickly making puffs of dust and fumes. There are some road kills and strips of rubber littering the shoulder. I wish that the sun would be warmer. It does not take long before I get a ride to Lévis, my old stomping ground. That's where I grew up.* As I am walking along the road to find the best possible spot, a car stops. I run to it.

- How are you? says a smiling man.
- Where are you going? says a smiling woman.
- Montréal I said, smiling as well.
- You got the right bus! Come along they replied.

Yvan and Monique were from St-Magloire in La Beauce, they were now living in Montréal. We talked and laughed the whole trip. They dropped me at the Langelier Station and went away with their big smiles.

Here I have a few things to do. I am planning to stay in Montréal for a couple of days. I must go to the office of Canada World Youth . During the previous year, I was a participant in the Canada / Columbia exchange program. - This was such an amazing experience! I learned a lot of things about the world and myself. I made so many good friends there. - I want to say good bye to the whole gang that works at the headquarters before going further on my trip. I also want to collect some money that they owe me. But today is the national holiday and everything is closed so I probably go on Tuesday morning.**

In the meantime I made my way to the apartment of my good friend Pierre Roberge, who was with me in the Canadian / Columbian adventure. Pierre now works full time in a travel agency. He seems kind of down.

* I had a lots of friends there but for some reason I chose not to take advantage of the opportunity to stop in and see them at this time. (July 1 2004)

** Just a reminder. 25 years ago, July 1 was a Sunday and Monday was a holiday as well. (July 1 2004)
