Highway 403. 29 degrees Celsius. I am walking along the shoulder. My pack-sack seems heavy. I can see the heat rising from the pavement. It makes the horizon dance. I am sweating profusely. I can feel the sun baking my head. The cars keep rushing by and I keep looking right into the eyes of the drivers. Someone once told me of the importance of making a contact with the person behind the wheel, through the eyes. So here I am, squinting my eyes from the bright sun and staring all at once. After a few hours, I end up in Ancaster where I meet up with Joe. You guessed it, he too was in Canada World Youth. I shared with him, all of the latest news from the others, that I have seen in the past few days. This should be the last time that I see any friends from my past for a while. Tomorrow I will be in the States.

Twenty-five years ago I went on a hitchhiking trip around Canada and the USA. I kept an obsessively detailed journal of my adventures. Recently while cleaning some old boxes I found the journal, which I thought was lost long ago. This blog re-tells some of my stories.
